I put a question mark after the word ‘The’ as this document is supposed to be the final proposal prior to the October (EU Council) meeting. Having had a quick first read of this document I tweeted:
Having had a quick read of the Brexit White Paper (which seems a tad Brown as it is ‘covered in you know what’, I too remain suitably unimpressed. She won’t even be able to pick the cherry of the cake! Why not just EFTA/EEA?
When this is reviewed by the EU Commission do not be surprised when it is treated like the ‘Beano’ and dismissed with contempt.- perhaps Theresa May is attempting to become Desperate May and eat ‘humble cow pie’?
It is time, surely, that those claiming that anything other than a complete and severing of all ties with the EU is somehow a betrayal of Brexit was nailed as the propoganda that it is. For those with a brain the vote at the time of the referendum was to leave a political union, in so doing only to be subject to approximately 25% of the EU Acquis thus gaining control of immigration, fisheries, agriculture, the loss of ECJ decision making and the ability to do trade deals – not to be beholden to a Conservative/Labour ‘out of this world trade fixation’.
It is not my intention to ‘fisk’ this White Paper as I feel sure those far better qualified than I (RichardAENorth: EUReferendum.com) will, overnight tear it to shreds. On this point, whilst I have no time for Jacob Rees-Mogg, I have to refer to a tweet in which he is mentioned.
Rees Mogg on White Paper – “This is the greatest vassalage since King John paid homage to Phillip II at Le Goulet in 1200. This White paper has not needed age to turn yellow.” – just in case it wasn’t clear, he says he won’t vote for it (Emphasis mine). As a put down JRM’s is superb – unfortunately his views on Brexit are utter crap.
Not that the ‘icon of BBC politics’ makes the slightest attempt to make this point – all she is interested in is to ‘create a soundbite’ – which illustrates the nadir to which she and her colleagues have sunk.
Referring back to the White (Brown?) Paper I must ‘home in’ on our Prime ( prat of a) Minister who maintains in her Foreward yet again: We will take back control of our money, laws, and borders,….. When oh when will politicians realize (and acknowledge) that making one’s own laws (national sovereignty) is ‘dead in the water’?
There are those who believe we should replace May with JRM; to which the question has to be asked: what is the point of replacing one inmate from the asylum by another inmate from the asylum; when both consider themselves ‘the bee’s knees’?
Wherefore democracy per se while the inmates control the asylum? In the words of Private Frazier, while they are, we’re doomed.
Should not democracy per se mean that the power to govern lies directly in the hands of the people rather than being exercised through their representatives? So how about a revolution to put put power back where it belongs: aka direct democracy?
